Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters have been removed from the South African legislature

By Ashok Ramsarup :: Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters have been removed from the South African legislature in Cape Town, where they tried to stop Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan from presenting his budget vote speech.

The EFF MPs – better known as the Red Brigades — confronted Gordhan demanding his departure from the podium during his speech. This comes hot on the heels by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who is opposing the Minister’s court challenge to set aside her recent report on the so-called South African Revenue Service “rogue unit” during his tenure as SARS commissioner.

The unruly behaviour erupted when EFF members disrupted the speech stating that he should not be allowed to take the podium and address MPs, claiming that he was a “constitutional delinquent”.

This is not the first time the disgruntled political party performed in Parliament, the EFF disrupted House ahead of former President Jacob Zuma’s question and answer session in the National Assembly in 2015.

Speaker of the House Grace Bororto summoned security staff as the EFF advanced towards  Gordhan, but he stood his ground. Gordhan was protected by some MPs from the angry  EFF members.
