South Africa gears up for the 2020 World Soccer Summit

By Ashok Ramsarup :: Former South African Ambassador to the Czech Republic – NOMUSA DUBE-NCUBE – is on a mission to improve the tourism market in the country despite the shrinking economy as the nation suffered severe power cuts earlier this year.

Dube-Ncube, who is the KwaZulu Natal Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC in the provincial parliament, made an impact at the World Soccer Summit in Spain today taking South Africa to higher levels.

She said:  “South Africa and the KwaZulu-Natal province, in particular, have in the past proved to be worthy and competent hosts of a number of national, continental and international events of diverse interests.” This comes as South Africa prepares itself to host the World Summit in 2020.

Dube-Ncube said they were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response and interest that had been shown by the football-loving family from across the globe. “Our main purpose is to create a synergy with the football community that directly impacts on tourism in KwaZulu-Natal where two of the leading political figures Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi heritage sites are situated.  Ironically South Africa celebrated heritage day today.

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that we work together to develop soccer around the country that will lead to twinning arrangements between KwaZulu-Natal soccer clubs, academic institutions and other cities as part of creating the next generation of soccer stars in South Africa,”  she said.

Dube-Ncube said the main focus of the KwaZulu-Natal was to develop relations to influence and improve the environment and ultimately encourage soccer since the re-admission to the international arena after decades of sports isolation.

2020 is around the world, Dube-Ncube was optimistic that the World Football Summit would become “a must-see event” in the global calendar next year.

In 2010, South Africa successfully held the World Cup Football spectacular encouraged more than three million soccer fans to the country. A number of soccer stadiums were built encouraging the”beautiful game of soccer”.
